A Tribute to a Great Women

Perhaps you have been a close witness of a fierce woman, a hardworking mother that bring food to the table, educate their children, and encourage them to grow and dream big. Our Colombian bags come from a great inspiration, Blanca and Petrona: Although they are in heaven, it was with their example that today we can invite you to this adventure.

The palm tree and the beginning

The history of us begins a few decades ago, to be more exact it began with our GRANDMA!, who made her home on a beautiful the farm called “Sunrise”. For many years, delicious fruits and vegetables were cultivated in the fields, food was prepared on a wood stove, and children learned their lessons under the dim light of gas lamps, life back then was the same.

But one day everything changed.

In total empowerment of her destiny and defying the strict rules of that time, my grandmother separated, and that is how the palm tree appeared in our lives, as an opportunity to support a family with great desire to live and many dreams to fulfill.

Unshakable spirit

Every morning Granny Blanca traveled two hours to another state, she bought the palm tree and returned with heavy packages that she often carried by herself. On the farm, our great-aunt prepared the mixture that dyed the palm with that deep black color that many of us know, and with skill, they patiently braided endless meters of this beautiful material.

One by one the daughters got involved, as has been the tradition for many generations, the mothers taught the daughters this art, and with the effort of the whole family they could pay the school, they also bought the Black and white television, and our family had the first university graduates.

Who are we?

Now it’s our turn, two aunts and two nephews started this adventure called Verapalm, we listened to the artisan’s concerns and hopes. They want better options, better pay. And that’s how we found our purpose: To carry on our grandmother’s legacy, creating a better future for a lot of artisans with many dreams to fulfill.
